Right out of the station is Sugamo Ekimae Shopping Street. A rather short block or two of shops, it connects to better-known Sugamo Jizo-dōri Shōtengai (Shopping Street). Along the way is Togenuki Jizoson Kōganji, a temple with a statue of Arai Kannon believed to heal ailments. Back on the street, it’s easy to spot Sugamo Jizo-dōri’s duck mascot, Sugamon. There’s even a large furry (feathery?) reproduction of Sugamon’s behind, where it’s believed that touching it will lead to falling in love. Towards the end of the shopping area, the street connects with the Tokyo Sakura Tram, one of the last remaining tram lines in Tokyo.
